Description of the Project: Project to rehabilitate 325 km of storm water drainage network in the Kawdana and Attidiya areas. A majority of the areas is low lying and flood prone. This project was the 3rd phase of the flood control and environmental improvement project started in 1990 by the Sri Lanka Land Reclamation & Development Corporation.
Scope of Work:

Consultancy services included:

  • Carried out investigations, topographical surveys, preliminary and prepared of detailed designs and working drawing.
  • Prepared BOQs, cost estimates, tender documents, and assistance with selection of international contractors.
  • Determined peak flood flows, developed runoff coefficients giving due consideration to population density, land use, gradient of terrain, paved areas and observed rainfall intensities.
  • Using the data above, drainage network was designed to cater to storm flows from the micro, meso and main catchments.
  • Involved in construction supervision and management of rehabilitation activities including dredging and clearing of water ways, widening of drainage network, construction of drainage and flood control structures and retaining structures.

Was responsible for progress monitoring, control of construction activity, quality control of works, liaison with the public, utility authorities and other government organizations.
