Description of the Project: Evaluation of the sewerage needs of 4 coastal towns affected by the Tsunami, identification of towns to re develop sewerage systems prioritized according to current pollution levels, projected population up to 2030.
Scope of Work: Carried out assessment of existing sewerage systems / facilities in Galle, Hambantota, Negambo and Matara towns and identified their short comings and inadequacy, identified the nature of pollution caused by the inadequate systems, made recommendations to overcome pollution of storm water drainage systems, collection of data on current coverage and future development potentials of the Local Authority areas, assisted to select the towns of Negambo and Galle to develop sewerage systems and developed conceptual and preliminary designs for 90 km and 69 km sewer system with force mains and having 10 and 5 pump stations respectively. The outfalls will be 900mm dia and 820 m in length in Negambo and 710 mm dia and 490 m in length in Galle. The consultants also prepared preliminary estimates for civil works, liaised with stakeholders.
