Description of the Project: The project was awarded to Messes Hojgaard of Denmark on a Turnkey design and build contract. Project aimed to fulfil the drinking water needs of the consumers in the Kandy south area. Project comprised of 7 intakes, 18 reservoirs, improvement of 12 existing reservoir, 70 km of transmission main, more than 700 km of distribution lines, bore hole intakes at Gannoruwa and Elpitiya, 2 weirs at Meewathura intake and Ulapane intake.
Scope of Work:

The consultants were involved in:

  • Reviewed conceptual designs.
  • Carried out hydrological assessments, prepared structural design of Meewathura and Ulapane weirs.
  • Designed 18 ground reservoirs, rehabilitated / improved of 12 reservoirs, designed 6 new reservoirs.
  • Designed transmission lines, distribution systems, pump stations, staff quarters and offices.
  • Involved in structural designs of Gampola, Ulapane, Meewatura TPs, and M & E designs.
