Description of the Project: The Colombo International Container Terminal Project is a Joint Venture between China Merchant Holdings Co. Ltd, Aitken Spence (Pvt) Ltd and SLPA. This is an Engineer Procure Construct [EPC] project and the main Contractor is China Harbour Engineering Co. Ltd and AECOM, Hong Kong is the Employer’s Representative [Lead Consultant] with ECL as the Sub-Consultant.
Scope of Work: The South Terminal will be 1200m long x 600m wide (approx) with provision for 3 berths with minimum water depth of -18m. The container yard will have provision for 12 nos ship-to-shore gantry cranes and 40 nos yard gantry cranes. Utilities provided will include Electrical supply (including sub-stations, and switchgear) , water supply, sewerage, storm-water drainage, fire-fighting system including underground hydrant system and high mast area lighting. Building will include Administration, workshop & maintenance areas, sub-stations, fuel storage and re-fuelling facilities, Customs and Police posts. ECL and will assist AECOM, the Employer’s Representative, in ensuring that the Contractor carries out the design of the terminal with all facilities, the procurement of equipment and the construction of the South Terminal of the Colombo Port to the Employer’s specifications, while providing reliability and performance to the Employer’s expectations. ECL will provide all national Key Professional Staff and Support Staff. The Project duration is 3 years with a 1 year Defect Liability Period.
